Be Lucky!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Today we celebrate all things Irish, including the color green, four-leaf clovers, and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. As the day goes on, you may receive a spoken Irish blessing or a wish of good luck. This makes us wonder, are you feeling lucky?

Luck is defined as the things that happen to a person because of chance. You might say you had a stroke of luck if you made all the green lights on the way to work or if you found money you didn’t know you had. Even “luckier” is the person who made a mistake but didn’t see the expected consequences, like some of the folks in our #BranhamNoNo photo album (hopefully).

You’re in luck today, because we have a few tips on how to become a lucky duck. 🙂

  • Be thankful. Chances are, you’re already “lucky” or blessed. If you focus on the many things you have to be grateful for, instead of the bad luck you’ve had, you will count yourself blessed indeed.
  • Help others. If you look for ways to help others, you will find it easier to count your blessings. Some of our favorite ways to help include supporting the Fisher House and other veterans’ causes. Consider those find others you are passionate about.
  • Work hard. Thomas Jefferson was rumored to believe strongly in luck, and is attributed with the statement, “the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.” Alas, we have found that to be true as well.
  • Surround yourself with great people. You know what they say, “Birds of a feather flock together.” Surround yourself with grateful, helping, hard-working people and you will find their good luck rubbing off on you.
  • Choose wisely. Don’t count on luck to get you out of the consequences of a bad decision. If you spend more than you make, you will eventually have to pay the piper. If you choose to do DIY electrical work, you might find yourself in a shocking experience. Make thoughtful choices, weighing out the consequences of each option before you.

We hope that you have a wonderful day celebrating the luck of the Irish. If you’re out and about celebrating with a few green beverages, remember that you don’t need luck, you need a plan to get home safely. We leave you with a traditional Irish blessing: May your pockets be heavy, and your heart be light. May good luck pursue you both day and night.
